Pride Project
This project was an exhibition piece made in celebration of Cardiff Pride, which was exhibited in the Linbury Gallery for the duration of Pride Month in 2023.
There were five designers for this project. We each had the responsibility of designing a flat that included one of the five letters in “Pride.”

Idea Generation
The Idea
I love the celebration of pride, and I wanted to take a more alternative approach to my design. I wanted to represent the punk aspect of the LGBT+ community.
Denim Patchwork
I wanted the base of the flat to be built from ‘denim’ patches, the inspiration was from punk jackets that are covered in political patches.
Political Patches
The patches I want to include in the final piece will be inspired by queer political graffiti.
The Frame
This was the reference picture I picked out for the Frames paint job.
Final Designs
Final design sketch
Finalised digital rendering with all designs included.
Using scrap materials and deciding where the deim patches will be.
Painting the base colour onto each patch.
Making the safety pins using thick wire and card, spray painted silver
Gluing in the large safety pins into place, adding in the political patches
Painting into the patches to add frayed edges as well as dry brushing to pick up the fabric weave pattern to make it look like denim
Painting the recycled frame starting with a simple white base. For the texturing, I used crumpled plastic bags dipped in black paint.
Finished exhibit
The entire finished piece with all five letters!
Close-up of my individual flat, I was super happy with how it turned out.
The construction process for this exhibition piece was over the span of 3 days.
